Aftercare Guide

Beautiful cashmere and lambswool ask for very little: a gentle wash now and then, a flat place to dry, and a safe place to rest between wears. Look after your pieces well and they will repay you with years of softness. Here is everything we recommend, step by step.

How to wash your cashmere

Hand washing is best. Fill a basin with lukewarm water, never hot, as hot water can shrink natural fibers. Add a capful of our Cashmere, Wool & Delicates Detergent and swirl it through the water, then submerge your garment and leave it to soak for around ten minutes.

Gently squeeze the water through the fabric rather than rubbing or wringing, which can stretch the knit. Rinse in clean lukewarm water, then press the garment against the side of the basin to remove excess water and roll it in a clean, dry towel.

Two habits make the biggest difference: wash inside out, and wash less often. Cashmere and lambswool refresh beautifully with a simple airing between wears, so save the wash for when it is truly needed. If you prefer, dry cleaning is perfectly fine for all of our pieces too.

Drying and reshaping

Lay your garment flat on a dry towel or a surface with good airflow, gently easing it back into shape while it is damp. Never hang wet knitwear, as the weight of the water pulls it out of shape, and keep it away from radiators and direct sunlight while it dries. Fold it away only once it is completely dry.

Removing pilling

A little pilling is completely natural on new cashmere: it is simply loose surface fibers working their way out, and it settles down after the first few wears and washes. To tidy it, lay the garment flat and glide our Cashmere & Wool Sweater Comb in one direction in short, soft strokes. Our guide to stopping cashmere pilling explains the why, and the fix, in more detail.

Storing your knitwear, and keeping moths away

Always store knitwear clean, as moths are drawn to worn garments far more than clean ones. Fold your pieces rather than hanging them for long periods, and keep them somewhere cool and dry.

For longer storage, our Cashmere & Delicates Protective Storage Bag keeps the shape of your garments while protecting them, and our Lavender & Cedarwood Moth Repellent Sachets add a gentle, natural line of defence. If you are putting pieces away for the summer, our guide to storing cashmere over summer walks you through it.

Repairing small damage

A snag or a small hole does not have to mean the end of a favorite piece. Our Pure Cashmere Darning Yarn and Darning Needles make small mends simple, and the Garment Repair Kit covers combs, snags and everyday fixes in one place. You will find everything on our Care and Repair page.
