History of Cashmere

Derived from the wool of the Himalayan mountain goat, cashmere boasts an incredibly soft inner coat, a result of the goats’ adaptation to the harsh Himalayan environment. Hand-combed from beneath the chin and underbelly, these soft, fine downy fibres form the basis of cashmere production.

Initially prized for its scarcity and labour-intensive extraction process, cashmere gained favour in Europe during the late 18th century. Scotland emerged as a pivotal centre for the modern cashmere and weaving industry by the 19th century, with innovations in weaving technology allowing delicate fibre separation without damage. For this reason, the majority of our products are 100% pure and easy to trace back to their goat origins.
